Holy Grails and White Whales

Once again participating in the League (over here at Cool and Collected...go check out Brian's site...I'll wait), this week's assignment is "What is a holy grail item you hope to find at a flea market, toy show, or comic convention? What else do you collect?"

Hee hee...

Anybody that follows me on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, etc. knows I collect PEZ dispensers. In fact, I post more on my PEZ site ( than I do anywhere else on the interwebs. I can't help it -- it's a passion of mine, and I could talk about it for days on end. There are dispensers scattered through my apartment, and I'm sure one day I will have to devote an entire room to them.

I've been collecting since the mid 1990s, and have acquired a lot of sets since then. The set I'm probably most proud of is the Star Wars PEZ set, even though I'm not a huge SW fan. The dispensers are cool, and there were a lot released (over 20 different dispensers). I've gotten tons of different sets, from Disney movies to comic book characters, which brings me to my "white whale" -- my one dispenser I keep searching for.

This is the original Incredible Hulk PEZ dispenser that was released in the early 80s. It's dark green and has no feet, and collector price goes for about $60-$70, or at least it is supposed to be. I say that because there was one that I found on eBay still in package, and I think it sold for twice that price. I don't know that I would have paid that price. It's a little out of my price range, and I don't want to go too extravagant on my PEZ tastes. I get what I can afford, and let go of those I can't. I would say that the most I would pay would be $50 for a PEZ dispenser, unless I can get away with getting this particular guy for a reasonable price. They sell out of package for around that price, but most of the ones I see are used and don't look quite like what I expect (I'm a perfectionist). It can't have a lot of scratches, and can't look too used.

We'll see if we can't get past those little nuances and get a Hulk dispenser. Plus, if I get this, I will have every Hulk dispenser made. Well, except for a black stem Hulk, which is even more rare than this one.

If I had my choice of a second thing to collect, it would be either the entire Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles classic PEZ set (there are 64 different PEZ dispensers, and I have one...that's gonna take a while to complete), or if not PEZ, I want the entire DC Super Powers action figure collection, since the only two figures I got were Doctor Fate and parents hated me...though Doctor Fate was kinda cool.

Well, I'm gonna go back to posting about PEZ, and attempt to keep up with the League more often. I'm falling behind on posts.

Check out these three other bloggers for their choices:

  1. Awesome! You're the first PEZ Dispenser collector I've known of (although I'm sure there's tons). Gonna think of you next time I see 'em! Had no idea they can fetch a high price! What's the most expensive PEZ dispenser you've ever seen?

    1. Up close? I have a set of Bride and Groom dispensers that I paid almost $35 for, so I'd say that's the most expensive ones I've seen in person. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to go to the Burlingame PEZ Museum and the PEZ Visitors Center sometime and I will probably be in candy heaven.
